Best Plant-Based Yogurt Brands

The Best Dairy-Free Yogurt (Top 4 Brands)

I’m someone that loves anything creamy and tangy, so I’ve always been a big yogurt girl; and when I went vegan, I had to find some new favorites. The good new is, there are a handful of excellent vegan yogurt brands that still get you all of that creamy, dreamy, probiotic goodness, but without the dairy scaries. So whether you’re a fellow vegan – or just have a lactose sensitivity or intolerance – this article breaks down the best dairy-free yogurt brands I’ve found on the market.

Why plant-based yogurt should be a staple in your diet:

  • It’s one of the best foods you can eat for gut health. The probiotics in yogurt are mega impactful for your microbiome (that good bacteria is essential for everything from digestion, to immunity, to mental health)!
  • It can pack a major protein punch. I love that more dairy-free yogurt brands have high-protein options now – below are the ones that I love to add into smoothies or have as an afternoon bridge snack to sneak in some extra protein.
  • It makes for the perfect healthy dessert swap. If you’re trying to kick a post-dinner ice cream habit (been there), yogurt still gets you that tasty, creamy, satisfying dessert experience. You can mix in a little maple syrup with an unsweetened yogurt, top it off with some fruit, granola, hemp or chia seeds, and you’ve got a super healthy sweet treat.

What I look for in my dairy-free yogurt:

  • Certified organic and/or non-GMO certified
  • No added fillers or gums
  • Zero added sugar or refined sugars (with a couple of exceptions)

Let’s get into my round-up of the best dairy-free yogurt brands!

Kite Hill

I pretty much always have Kite Hill’s greek-style protein yogurt in my fridge. This creamy almond milk yogurt offers a hefty protein kick thanks to the added soy protein, and it has very minimal, clean ingredients. Both the original and vanilla unsweetened flavors have zero added sugars, which I love. And two-thirds of a cup gets you a whopping 17g of protein. I love adding it to my morning smoothie, to granola and fruit bowls, and even in baking (try swapping butter/eggs for yogurt/nut butter in your chocolate chip cookies – it’s incredible). Their original almond milk yogurt is also fantastic. You can find Kite Hill at most conventional and specialty grocers (store locator here).

Forager Project

I’ve always loved Forager’s cashew and coconut-based yogurts, but when I tried their new greek-style protein yogurt I audibly said “oh, wow.” It’s so delicious and creamy, and is easily one of the best dairy-free yogurts I’ve ever tried. A 6 oz. serving (just under 2/3 cup) gets you 13g of protein, thanks to rice protein. Their OG cashew milk yogurt is also excellent, and their products are also certified organic. Find Forager yogurt at conventional and speciality grocers here.

Cocojune

Best Plant-Based Protein Sources

Ok, I said above that I make some small exceptions for added sugar in yogurt – and that includes Cocojune’s. Their new greet-style protein yogurt – particularly in the raspberry and blueberry lemon flavors – have a little added sugar, but they literally taste like cheesecake and are so incredibly delicious and decadent; they’re one of my favorite desserts at the moment. They also make the greek-style yogurt in an unsweetened option as well, and it’s also excellent. I also love that Cocojune doesn’t use plastic packaging, and all of their products are certified organic. Store locator here.

Culina

Culina is a great plant-based yogurt brand that uses really clean, simple ingredients – most of which are organic, all of which are non-GMO. I love their ‘plain & simple’ flavor that is literally just made from organic coconut, agar, and probiotic cultures. Find Culina at your nearest grocery store here.

That’s a wrap on my list of the best dairy-free yogurt brands.
